Here you go, the “classic” cinnamon roll recipe for everybody. Well honestly you don’t really know what is classic these days anymore but if involves cinnamon, sugar and dough then it can only be good… I think. Still not a fan of cinnamon rolls though, but you can check out my other recipe Apples and Pecans Cinnamon Rolls that makes everything way more interesting. However, cinnamon rolls tend to turn a breakfast into something fun… if I’m not falling asleep while at it. :)
Trivia: Did you know, the country of its presumed origin is actually Sweden? Beat that!
In a small bowl and some warm water, yeast and a bit of sugar and let it activate for 5-10 minutes. While this happens, melt the butter and pour it into the bowl of your mixer along with the milk and mix for a bit.
Add the yeast mixture, eggs, salt and ¼ cup of sugar and mix until everything is well incorporated. Now the only thing that’s left is to add the flour, and we’ll add 1 cup to 1½ cups at a time. Keep kneading until you finished all flour and shape it into a ball. Place it in an oiled bowl and let it rise until it doubles in size.
At this point you can get the filling ready, so add white sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon to a… something and mix it for a bit. You can also add some chopped pecans or raisins if you think is too boring… I know I do.
Anyway, after a couple of hours grab the dough and roll it out until it is about ½ of an inch thick (about 1cm) and spread your mixture over the entire surface. Roll out the dough and pinch the seams together. Cut the dough like you would cut a bread, 1 inch (2.5cm) slices and place them in a buttered baking dish of your choosing. Make sure you let them rise for another half an hour or so.
Bake them in a preheated oven at 375° F / 190° C for about 20 minutes. If you want to add some icing that’s pretty easy too. In a small bowl mix together butter, vanilla extract and powdered sugar until they beg for mercy and then you are done. Enjoy your cinnamon rolls… I mean mine. :)
